Pure Joy & Excitement:

The Journey to Purple Mountain Begins!

Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to share some incredible news! The countdown has begun for our long-awaited trip to the Purple Mountain Artist Residency (PMAR) in South Africa. After nearly a decade of virtual collaboration, 75 SHOTS' members will finally meet in person!!! This project is self-funded as we await responses from potential funders, and we are grateful for all the love and support that continues to pour in to make this dream a reality.

Fundraising Update: I Had a Dream – Queer African Artists Unite

We have released a brand-new fundraising video on our GoFundMe page to support our work. You can hear and meet the filmmakers who will be coming together at our safe haven, PMAR. Our goal is to pay a small stipend to every artist involved, ensuring that their dedication and talent are valued. Your contributions go directly to supporting queer African filmmakers, authors, musicians, and actors as we come together to create something truly groundbreaking. The first queer Pan-African anthology film made by filmmakers originally from oppressive regimes shot in Africa.

Packing with Purpose: Donations Needed!

As we gear up for this adventure, we are collecting old laptops, tablets, and phones to bring to our collaborators. Our friend, Wanda vanderStoop @Vtape, has generously offered to have people drop off their devices at their location, 401 Richmond St.W, suite 452 in Toronto and contact 75shotsmovie@gmail.com from drop offs in Montreal. The generosity of family and friends has been overwhelming—thank you to everyone who has already volunteered their time, energy, and resources.

Purple Mountain: A Meeting of Beautiful Minds

We have secured a beautiful house where our team will be housed and where much of the filming will take place. The residency will be an inspiring hub for creativity, featuring international speakers from Africa, Canada and Colombia—writers, healers, activists, musicians, and filmmakers who will meet with us throughout our stay. Among them is Unoma Azuah, a trailblazing author and advocate whose work you can explore and buy at Agenda Coop, a trans-feminist bookstore in Montreal, or you can catch her on the airwaves on QueerCorps on CKUT discussing our upcoming collaboration, which be featured on March 3rd,2025 @ 6pm and can be found in the archives afterwards.

Behind the Scenes: A Documentary in the Making

We are beyond excited that local documentarian Sandiswa Tsefu will be joining our team to film a behind-the-scenes documentary of our journey. Sandiswa’s engaging work can be seen in the Cinema Feast Collection—a must-watch for those who appreciate bold community work.

Casting & Collaborations

Our recent casting call for our Cape Town production has already brought incredible candidates, and we can't wait to meet them in person! The energy is building as we prepare to bring our vision to life.

75 SHOTS in the Press

A full French-language article on 75 SHOTS has been published in Fugues. It captures the essence of what we do and the impact we strive to make.

Solidarity | Reach out and Touch

We aim to move audiences from empathy to action on LGBTQ+ rights issues. 100% of the proceeds go to 75 SHOTS Pocket Cinema, a non-profit media arts organization by, for, and about marginalized BIPOC queer artists, originally from the Global South. Through the power of mobile filmmaking, we support the collaborative creation of experimental films that amplify underrepresented voices, foster global solidarity, and advocate for humanitarian causes.

The main subject is a non binary black person's head and shoulder in b/w. Their haircut is short and shaved on the side. It is a cartoon illustration. There is a hand holding a smartphone in front of the subject in landscape mode. The index finger and thumb are all that you can see from the hand and it's in the same b/w colour as the subject with silver undertones. The frame of the phone is golden colour. The screen of the phone is cracked and ressembles a damaged windshield that has been broken by a fallen rock/pebble from a truck on the highway. The colour image on the screen of the phone, focuses on the naked eyes cheekbone and pierced nose. It’s in the radiant colour of the rainbow The mouth is in b/w as it is outside the frame of the smartphone. Illustration by Wacyl Kha 75 SHOTS founding member. Queer Cinema from the Global South
