Our Story

Shooting down hatred one shot at a time

In 2016, Karin Hazé attended her first underground Pride event in Jamaica, where she met LGBTQ+ advocate & Grand Marshal, Bishop Christopher Senyonjo from Uganda. She learnt that at that time, there were 75 countries in the World that criminalized homosexuality, including 11 with death penalties.

This injustice struck her as an extraordinary infringement of basic human rights. When she came back to Canada, she launched an online video platform placing emphasis on queer works under-represented by mainstream media.

75 SHOTS was born out of Karin's desire to teach mobile filmmaking to the people she met at Pride in Jamaica, in order for them to tell their own stories.

Today, participants from one of the countries in which homosexuality is still criminalized, are given a platform to think creatively and tell their stories, for the sake of opening other people's eyes and minds to different perspectives. Together we develop innovative ideas, expand networks and encourage transformative change, through the power of cinema.

Fighting against the persecution of LGBTQ+ artists worldwide

Our Mission

A shot refers to both the image captured by a camera when the shutter clicks, and also to the action of a firearm. When 75 SHOTS began, there were seventy-five countries with homophobic laws, and we are working to steadily decrease that to none. Our goal is to ensure that one day there will be “zero shots“. Shooting down hatred one shot at a time through the power of cinema.  Our wish is to Influence LGBTQ+ advocates, supporters, decision-makers, allies and activists to push legal reforms.

75 Shots

75 SHOTS is a member-driven non-profit organization with the mission to fight against the persecution and criminalization of LGBTQ+ artists from  countries in which homosexuality is still criminalized.

We empower disenfranchised LGBTQ+ voices and expand mainstream storytelling narratives on our online platforms. Using digital media and art, our productions create international communities through collaborations, mentorships and development of artistic practices in a safe environment.

"Unless we make it our civic duty to stand in solidarity with those who are deprived of their own creative freedoms, we will keep on making inauthentic stories about our global LGBTQ+ family."

- Founder of 75 SHOTS Karin Hazé

Solidarity | Reach out and Touch

We aim to move audiences from empathy to action on LGBTQ+ rights issues. 100% of the proceeds go to 75 SHOTS Pocket Cinema, a non-profit media arts organization by, for, and about marginalized BIPOC queer artists, originally from the Global South. Through the power of mobile filmmaking, we support the collaborative creation of experimental films that amplify underrepresented voices, foster global solidarity, and advocate for humanitarian causes.

The main subject is a non binary black person's head and shoulder in b/w. Their haircut is short and shaved on the side. It is a cartoon illustration. There is a hand holding a smartphone in front of the subject in landscape mode. The index finger and thumb are all that you can see from the hand and it's in the same b/w colour as the subject with silver undertones. The frame of the phone is golden colour. The screen of the phone is cracked and ressembles a damaged windshield that has been broken by a fallen rock/pebble from a truck on the highway. The colour image on the screen of the phone, focuses on the naked eyes cheekbone and pierced nose. It’s in the radiant colour of the rainbow The mouth is in b/w as it is outside the frame of the smartphone. Illustration by Wacyl Kha 75 SHOTS founding member. Queer Cinema from the Global South
